The importance of logistics in the European Commission's recently published ten-year agenda has been highlighted under two flagship initiatives of its Europe 2020 Strategy.
Flagship initiative: "Resource efficient Europe"
The EU aims to support the shift towards a low-carbon, resource efficient economy while enhancing competitiveness and promoting energy security.
With this in mind, the European Commission will work to present proposals for the moderisation and decarbonisation of the transport sector through a mix of measures that include better logistics and the acceleration of strategic projects aimed at addressing critical bottlenecks such as cross border sections and inter modal nodes (cities, ports, logistics platforms).
Flagship initiative: "An industrial policy for the globalisation era"
In the wake of the economic crisis, the Commission aims to work closely with stakeholders to draft a framwork for a modern industrial policy supporting entrepreneurship and promoting competitiveness.
Among its priorities in this area, the Commission will work to ensure that transport and logistics networks enable EU-wide industry to have effective access to the Single Market as well as the international market.
