Logistics – a crucial enabler of trade

 

Logistics are the back-bone of supply chains and a key enabler of global trade. Without logistics and related services, global procurement, manufacturing, distribution, and sales as we know them would not be possible.

 

Logistics connect producers, traders, and consumers across the world, providing all businesses with reliable and effective access to goods and materials in domestic and international markets. Related services influence the cost of goods and the competitiveness of economies. They ensure the smooth functioning of efficient and integrated supply chains, along which trade flows develop and economies grow.

 

At times when backlashes against globalisation pose a challenge to free trade flows, the importance of smooth and efficient logistics and connectivity is paramount.

 

This year’s Summit provided a platform for discussion about the value of global supply chains and how an effective EU and global pro-trade policy framework can boost competitiveness, growth, and jobs in Europe.
